CALI Prop AB367, Los Angeles, 2020

It began on a TV shoot.

Hi, I'm Tescia Deák. I am an advertising creative director who has led multiple menstrual equity awareness campaigns. I have learned a rallying cry is not enough to create real change.

In 2018, I was introduced to the Menstrual Equity Movement by director Mari Cobra while shooting a commercial in Brazil. Mari was finishing her Emmy Award-winning film Our Blood, Our Body.

Often, the menstrual equity movement is met with the attitude of "not my problem" when, in fact, it is a social and economic justice issue. The inequity that hooked me into this movement was learning that school girls who couldn’t afford menstrual products had to stay home and miss school.

I was so inspired to help because of stories like these. I have since made it my mission to help solve period poverty in my lifetime — starting with NYC. I’m looking forward to sharing our progress into 2024!
